Musical theater writing team Rodgers and Hammerstein's popular Broadway musicals initiated the “golden age” of musical theater. Irving Berlin was an American composer and lyricist of Belarusian-Jewish origin, widely considered one of the greatest and most prolific songwriters in American history.
