Assistant Technical Director

Reports to: Technical Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Status: Full-Time
Supervisory Requirements: Yes


The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) reports directly to the Technical Director (TD) and assists with oversight of all technical production activities in support of the mission of The Atlanta Opera.  The ATD actively assists with management and implementation of technical operations and provides administrative support for the Technical Department.

  • Assist and advise on all technical production needs for all productions including analysis of incoming rentals, and analysis of proposed new build projects/productions.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of logistical plans for incoming rental productions.
  • Coordinate and supervise under the direction of the Technical Director – all stage crew departments in the theatre, warehouse, and shop, paying strict attention to IATSE rules and practices.
  • Assist with show planning, scheduling, installation, and running.
  • Work closely with the Technical Director overseeing the building, maintenance, and repair of all scenic assets, constructed props, and all logistical equipment (i.e., road-boxes), including procurement of all relevant construction materials.
  • Provide support on compliance with laws and regulations regarding all licensing, permits, certificates, and relevant documentation regarding the technical and production aspects of performances.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of near and long-term technical budgets, individual project budgets, and touring budgets.
  • Work closely with all departments regarding the technical support of other departments’ functions as required.
  • Assist with tracking stage crew hours.
  • Establish and maintain an asset rental program.
  • Implement as directed all professional/production stage, warehouse, and shop labor contracts.
  • Assist with all production equipment logistics and transportation logistics.
  • Produce drafting and appropriate technical paperwork including all technical drawings such as plans, sections, elevations, rigging points, and line schedules for all Atlanta Opera engagements.
  • Research competitive pricing for all technical operations purchases and rentals including shipping and support personnel.
  • Advise and assist with maintaining expense budgets within boundaries of project budgets.
  • Prepare support documentation for reconciliation of expenditures.
  • Provide support on all Safety matters including compliance with all appropriate federal, state, and local safety and health practices.
  • Other duties, as assigned.



  • Excellent written and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Excellent computer skills and aptitude, especially in CAD and using Microsoft Office Suite as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Knowledge or strong interest in opera preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within production team and with multiple departments.
  • Ability to drive a 26’ box truck.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or related field preferred.
  • At least three years’ work experience in theatrical production with a demonstrated track record of increased responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate using a phone and headset.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Have valid driver’s license.

Content Manager

Reports to: Director of Sales & Marketing

The Atlanta Opera Content Manager implements the digital and traditional marketing plans for both live and digital performances, with an emphasis on social media, e-mail marketing, writing and content management. The Content Manager creates and facilitates compelling editorial content on The Atlanta Opera social media, email, and podcast platforms. The manager coordinates with the film production team to project manage creation of promotional, educational, and social media videos. The ideal candidate is fluent in the ever-changing digital landscape, especially within arts and entertainment.

  • Executes integrated marketing strategy, which ensures that The Atlanta Opera maximizes visibility across channels and platforms for audiences both digital and live event, local and global.
  • Authors and executes the Atlanta Opera organic social media plan across all platforms, maximizing sharing of content and coordinating creation of content.
  • Authors and executes e-mail marketing campaigns.
  • Helps manage budget by managing costs associated with marketing programs, while reporting updates to the Director of Sales & Marketing.
  • Writes press releases, emails, and other opera communication as needed.
  • Manages content distribution platforms relationships with members and buyers, optimizing engagement and growth.
  • Maintain a content marketing calendar that schedules all aspects of the creation and delivery of content throughout the year.
  • Manage and provide compelling copy for search engine marketing campaigns and Google Grant.
  • Ensures that online distribution platforms integrate well with the opera’s Tessitura CRM for clear UX and tracking.
  • Tracks revenue and ROI of digital subscription and pay-per-view products.
  • Works closely with marketing and film team to design promotional video and social content to generate ticketed revenue.

  • Fluent digital citizen, with exceptional knowledge of social and distribution platforms.
  • Proven project manager with attention to detail and tenacity towards achieving deadlines.
  • Passion for the arts and opera; awareness of standards and emerging trends in digital media delivery and promotion for arts and entertainment.
  • Knowledge of E-mail Clients and CRM databases, including Wordfly and Tessitura is desired.
  • Knowledge of streaming platforms like Vimeo a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work and achieve results in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within marketing team and with multiple departments.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least two of work experience in marketing or a related field.

  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.
  • Knowledge or strong interest in opera, classical music and/or performing arts preferred.
  • Position requires evening and weekend obligations during the opera season.

Staff Accountant

Reports to: Controller

The Staff Accountant is a major support role for the finance team who oversees the business operations of the company including accounting & finance.  The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will work closely with the high-energy and fast paced Administrative/Finance team to ensure business procedures are adhered to and ensure the administrative & finance processes function adequately and supports program operations.

  • Assist Controller with annual Insurance Audits (Worker’s Comp & Property), 1042, unclaimed property and other state and federal filings as needed.
  • Maintain Monthly Balance Sheet Account Reconciliations.

  • Technology savvy with knowledge of accounting & reporting software; Knowledge of Abila/MIP Fund Accounting, Concur & Tessitura preferred.
  • Willingness and desire to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for up to and over eight hours per day.
  • Ability to communicate using a phone and headset.

Supernumeraries are non-speaking, non-singing roles in opera, similar to extras in movies. Casting needs vary per production. The Atlanta Opera accepts supernumerary applications any time of year for all those interested in being a part of an operatic production.
