Connecting to Our Community

We’re in this together.

“There is no sun without shadow, and it is essential to know the night.” – Albert Camus

We are committed to our mission now more than ever. With the help of our dedicated team, The Atlanta Opera is striving to make a difference in our community. Watch below for a message from Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General and Artistic Director, Tomer Zvulun.

Mask Initiative

The Atlanta Opera is proud to partner with Grady Health System to craft medical masks for use in area hospitals affected by shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hardworking team in The Atlanta Opera Costume Shop, along with other staff volunteers are working diligently to cut and sew thousands of masks, which is intended to cover and prolong the life of a N-95 respirator mask.

Singing Telegrams

We’re proud to have offered a community program during the COVID-19 lockdown aimed at making connections for those who were lonely, at-risk or just felt the need for human interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Using a cell phone or another recording device, Atlanta Opera Studio Artists and members of The Atlanta Opera Chorus filmed themselves singing or playing piano to send to senior living communities, hospital patients, or other individuals in need of emotional support. By sharing a short aria or a recipient’s favorite song, the singers hoped to make a small, positive impact on someone’s day. The program piloted with residents at Lenbrook [Independent Senior Living] in Atlanta, and expanded to reach front-line healthcare workers at Grady Health System and other individuals in the Atlanta community.

Digital Resources for School and Students

With schools closed for the rest of the 2019-20 academic year, it can be difficult to navigate the challenge of remote teaching and learning. Our education team has curated a list of resources for educators, parents, students, and the community to learn about opera from the comfort of your home!

Please note: The remaining Studio Tour performances of Hansel and Gretel and the Final Dress Rehearsal of Madama Butterfly have been cancelled.

How You Can Help

The cancellation of programming is a significant financial burden on arts institutions. Please consider supporting Atlanta Opera artists by making a gift today. Thanks to several generous Atlanta Opera donors, your donation will be matched, dollar for dollar.
